Summer School

Following the success of Our Day Out: The Musical in 2017, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is delighted to be running the Summer School project again in 2018 with a brand new professional production of Michelle Magorian’s

Goodnight Mister Tom

The dates of the Summer School are Monday, 6 August to Saturday, 8 September 2018.

Please note that, in the week beginning 2 September 2018, all the weekday performances will be in the evening.

We’ve already had the first stage of auditions but we are still looking for talented boys and girls aged 10 to 13 years old who can act and sing to play challenging key roles in the production. William and Zach are evacuated from London to the countryside where they meet Carrie, George and Ginnie; they all go through harrowing experiences but also the joy of forging strong new friendships. The successful applicants will need to be available from Mon 30 July right through the summer and including all of the scheduled performances. This project gives you an exciting opportunity to work either on stage alongside a professional cast (including Roy Hudd as the grumpy but lovable Mr Tom) or behind the scenes with Theatre Royal’s technical and production teams.

The cost to be a part of this amazing 5 week project is £200.00.

This can be paid in instalments and we do have a limited number of scholarship places available, please contact Natalie for more information.

Holiday Workshops

These workshops are designed to give children aged 6-11 the opportunity to explore different theatrical styles & skills within a working Theatre during the school holidays. Each workshop has a unique theme and gives children the opportunity to develop key life skills, play with theatrical devices, make new friends and most importantly, have fun!

“Our daughter wanted to try acting and developed an interest through school and for me as a parent it was an amazing experience in confidence building,” Myths & Legends workshop parent.

“Our children loved the workshop – keep doing it!” Journeys workshop parent.

The workshops are great for children who are thinking about joining our Youth Theatre groups and would like a taster for the kind of work we do or just a bit too young to join in with our Young Company shows but would like to get involved. Below are all workshops we have coming up for this academic year:

Summer Holidays ’18
