Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds

Guys & Dolls Blog with Liam aka Nathan Detroit

Posted on: 11th April, 2017

My name is Liam, and I will be playing the role of Nathan Detroit in the upcoming production of Guys and Dolls at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds on 9th – 13th May 2017.

I remember seeing this show at a local theatre when I was young, and thinking how brilliant it was. This show inspired me to get in to musical theatre and amateur dramatics, so it’s so close to my heart and one I was eager to be involved with as an adult.

We are a month away from opening night and rehearsals now have been going on for over 4 months – which seems like a lifetime. It has been great fun so far. We are blocked, meaning we should (in theory) know where we are meant to be in each scene. The choreography for the majority of the musical numbers has been done, and each number is looking fab with every move adding to the story. Musically, the songs are sounding great too – so long as we get the harmonies right!

With a little over a month to go until curtain up, the rehearsals now are about making all the elements work, and becoming slicker and better as the weeks go on.

I think I can speak on behalf of all involved with the show, cast and crew alike, that we can’t wait for show week to show people the awesome performance that this production is shaping up to be. Roll on show week, roll on 9th May.

This is the diary of Nathan Detroit.

I have been running the floating dice game now for quite some time (Since I was a juvenile delinquent) and let me tell you, it ain’t so easy. When the heat is on, and you have the cops watching your every move, it’s hard to find a place. I have assured my boys that we’ll find a place to hold the next game – although being honest I am starting to get worried. Not only do I have to keep things quiet on account of the Cops, but also because I promise my Adelaide that I’d give up running the game! If she ever found out, I don’t know what she’d do! Either way, I now got to go to the Hot Box to see her – While trying to think where I can have the game!
