The More Things Change…
Theatre Royal Community Company
Wed 19 — Thu 20 Jun
at Theatre Royal
Over the past four years, Theatre Royal’s outreach strand has been working in the community in Bury St Edmunds with various groups; teaching them writing and performance skills, giving them a voice and staging their special and unique stories in the theatre. This covers a wide range of groups from special needs to homeless, from women in refuge to people recovering from addiction, from young people at the YMCA to the elderly at Age UK.
This new and very special project has brought together members from all these groups and some volunteers, to form a new Community Company and to create a piece of theatre: The More Things Change.
The title comes from the saying ‘the more things change, the more they remain the same.’ This year, Theatre Royal celebrates 200 years of existence and as such, the group has explored how these different issues in society have changed and stayed the same within that time.
The members have devised the piece and Associate Artist and Playwright Danusia Iwaszko has taken the characters and ideas to create an original and very special show, ably assisted by Let’s Praise, the community orchestra who have partnered with us on this occasion.
This is a celebration of the people and the work of the theatre in the community for the past four years and it is with immense pleasure and pride that Theatre Royal invite you to an evening, performed by the people from these groups, full of music and song, poetry, drama and even humour!
Post show, stay and enjoy some the sounds of Bury’s own Recoveries Got Talent stars in the Greene Room Bar. Relax, reflect and enjoy the atmosphere a little longer.
